MadRocker (!empty($user->lang['WROTE'])) ? $user->lang['WROTE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'WROTE')))(!empty($user->lang['COLON'])) ? $user->lang['COLON'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'COLON')))Your base clock will be 3.8ghz, but that 12 core beast has a 4.6 ghz boost. The XMP profile loaded into the BIOS will set your Memory timings independently. It took a BIOS update after the R5 2700X release for it to run DDR4 3200, till then it was locked at DDR4 2933. You just have to remember to check all settings after any BIOS updates since its put's everything back to default settings. The GUI interface is also much nicer to navigate and set than the old DOS looking BIOS.

Thanks Mad. Finally ran across an article that wasn't just about overclocking the Ryzen. Apparently, like you said, it just "works" after you update the bios & set the memory to XMP.
Have to educate myself on GPT vs MBR now & gather the latest wisdom on disk alignment so I can juggle all my data, some of which is on RAID disks. Good time to pare down old data (tractor porn)!
Put the orders in yesterday! Amazon had the better price on the 3900x, $30 cheaper.
Anyone want pictures when I get down to it?

Some Newegg 3rd party vendor I guess hasn't shipped the damn mobo yet. Managed to get a retailer in Alberta to put what is possibly the last one available in Canada on hold for me till Monday just in case. :mafia:

Mmmmm.... Computer porn is always welcome... lol

Also MSI has an app as they call it (Command Center) to adjust CPU clock speeds on the desktop after booted or you can just leave it to boost as needed. I set mine at 4.25 Ghz, just a lil bit OC. My GPU on the other hand I have OC'd at 1650 MHz (1485 stock) and the HBM memory at 900 MHz (800 stock). Its also undervolted to 1070 mV (1200 mV stock?) to let it run cooler and not throttle when I finger bang it.

You'll enjoy tweeking your rig if you tinker like I do. Newer hardware and nicer Bios take a lot of fear out of it, you also have somewhat nerdly friends that are willing to help as best as we can.

Tinker? Who, me? :taunt: I want to try an overclock so bad, I'm thinking of buying an AM4 ring for the Asetek AIO that came with the old Sapphire Atomic 4870x2. It's still cooling my CPU but the GPU is still in the loop, just hanging in the case by strings! Now that the videocard isn't running, the system is cool. It's freakin' old tho, so I'll have make damned sure there's an alarm rigged if it goes kaput. :shok:

But will I dare to cut & splice? stay tuned...

Me being a cheap bitch, I went with this AIO cooler except it wasn't the LED model.

Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite ML240L RGB AIO CPU Liquid Cooler, Sleeved FEP Tubing, Dual 120mm RGB Air Balance MF, RGB Software compatible, Dual Dissipation Technology https://m.newegg.com/product/2YM-0004-00015?m_ver=1

I dont hear the pump at all at 100%, but 1 fan at 100% has a lil bearing noise.. Fans never run that fast anyway and are easy enough to replace when they die. Temps stay impressively low even with my wee bit of OC. I've been wanting to push it to 4.5ghz but I'm scured.. lol. Though smoking the CPU would give me a reason to go more cores.. (touches self)...

So I gave my head a shake. Tempting as it is, no way I'm gonna slap an 11 year old water cooler on my new rig. :nea: Gone are the days I could pay for this rig with one nice fat paycheck.
Jeez, your cooler's on sale today for $50 CAD! hmmmm
If they can put RGB in these things, you'd think they could also embed a coolant temperature sensor too. Come on you guys...
I have one taped to my rad (push/pull exhaust) but it barely goes above case ambient.
Do you push/pull the fans on yours Mad or just the 2 stock ones?

I just use the stock fans that came with it (non RGB at time). I was all about monitoring temps at first but then I set case fans to trigger on other specific hardware (chipset temps I believe) through the BIOS. It was the warmest hardware after water cooling the CPU, so now my case fans speed up/down according to those temps. My GPU is the MSI 8gig Vega 56 that has a blower on it, so no heat is recycled through the case. Its not the quietest setup by any means, it sounds like jet when it trys to get warm inside it, but I use headphones so no fucks are given.

Everything's got tracking numbers!
Emptied & broke my Raid 0 with 10-year-old Seagates & could finally read the SMART info. They were full of worms! Reallocated sectors up the yinyang with a big Warning! sign. :stop: Added a WD Black 6TB to the order...
